Madera Highlands was once part of the Santa Cruz Pecan Orchard owned by FICO. This is the largest Pecan orchard in the world. Part of the old growth portion of the orchard was sold off to be developed as Madera Highlands.
Many of the original Pecan trees remain in the community giving it a unique feel in an otherwise desert landscape. East of the community is a network of nature preserves including the Santa Rita Mountain Range with 9400 ft high peak, Mount Wrightson.
There are many reasons to like Madera Highlands. Here are a few things I have come to appreciate most.
- Network of nature undeveloped preserves East of community stretching to horizon.
- Adjacent 14 mile long pecan farm
- 15 minutes from shopping in Tucson
- 30 minutes from Tucson International Airport
- 30 minutes from Mexico
- No big city traffic
- Next to Madera Canyon
- Two shopping plazas within 5 minutes, Duval and Continental.
- Under shadow of 9,452 ft Mount Wrightson
- Dark sky laws preserve night sky views of stars
- Many of the old growth pecan trees remain.
- Community pool
- Two parks with big grass areas for kids to play
